Irishman who saved life of German girl who survived car crash says ‘he was very calm’

A man who saved the life of a German girl by jumping into the path of a speeding car has said he was “very calm” in his reaction to the accident.

The man was driving in Dublin when he saw the speeding car go off the road.

He tried to run over the car but his foot caught on a brake pad and caused it to roll over.

He managed to get out and he ran towards the car which then rolled over.

The car, which was still travelling at high speed, then caught fire.

The woman was taken to a local hospital in a critical condition.

She died on Monday night.

A statement from the Dublin City Council said the driver of the car, a 31-year-old man, had been taken to hospital after the crash.

The council said the accident happened in the city’s west.

It said the man was charged with driving while disqualified, driving without a licence, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while under the control of a drug or alcohol-related substance and driving without insurance.

He was due to appear in court on Wednesday.
